The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom

The Final Court of Appeal in the UK

About the Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom (initialism UKSC) is the final court of appeal in the United Kingdom for all civil cases and criminal cases from England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. It replaced the Appellate Committee of the House of Lords in 2009.

The Supreme Court is the highest court in the UK and its decisions are binding on all lower courts. The Court hears cases of the greatest public or constitutional importance, and its judgments have a significant impact on the development of the law in the UK.

The Court is composed of 12 Justices, who are appointed by the Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister. The Justices are drawn from a wide range of legal backgrounds, and they are all experts in their field.

The Supreme Court is located in Parliament Square in London. The Court building is a Grade I listed building, and it was designed by the architect John Soane.
