Katie Holmes is mourning the loss of her former co-star Obi Ndefo, who passed away suddenly at the age of 55. The two actors played love interests on the hit teen drama Dawson's Creek.

In a statement to Entertainment Tonight, Holmes said, "I am deeply saddened by the news of Obi's passing. He was a wonderful actor and a kind and generous soul. My thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time."

Ndefo was best known for his role as Bodie on Dawson's Creek. He appeared in 20 episodes of the show from 1998 to 2003. After Dawson's Creek, Ndefo went on to appear in a number of other television shows and films, including CSI: Miami, Law & Order, and The Wire.

The cause of Ndefo's death has not been released. However, TMZ reported that he had been suffering from health problems in recent years.

Holmes is not the only Dawson's Creek alum to react to Ndefo's death. James Van Der Beek, who played Dawson Leery on the show, also took to social media to express his condolences.

"I am heartbroken to hear of the passing of Obi Ndefo," Van Der Beek wrote on Twitter. "He was a talented actor and a wonderful friend. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones."
